27 May 2023 - Successful people are resilient

Resilience is the underlying trait of successful people. Resilience is about our ability to get up after falling and piece things together when everything falls apart. It’s an essential skill to become successful. Resilient people do more because they refuse to give up.

“While most people get distracted by the obstacles, setbacks and defeats they face, the resilient have a laser eye focus that allows them to harness the negative into positive and continue to move forward without hesitation.” - Caroline Stokes

Resilience depends on how well we adjust to the changes and challenges. Resilience isn’t about accepting defeat; it’s about bouncing back from adversity, quick and easy.

Building resilience is the key that turns challenges into successes. The road to success is paved with many failures. It’s a normal part of life. You cannot build resilience unless you are willing to fail. Failure is merely a stepping-stone that everyone goes through on their path to greatness. Resilience is to keep on trying until you succeed. At the heart of resilience lies a simple truth—change is inevitable. The reality is that we live in a world of constant change. People get into trouble when they ignore or resist change. As a result, they end up living a life of pain and suffering because they cannot find comfort in the chaos. The only way to truly grow and expand is to break free from the chains of stability and dive into the unknown. That is what we call faith.

The Bible contains many admonitions to overcome hardship and temptation and persevere in trials.

Philippians 3:13-15 (NLT) No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. Let all who are spiritually mature agree on these things. If you disagree on some point, I believe God will make it plain to you.

Romans 12:21 (ESV) Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

James 1:12 (ESV) Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.

Proverbs 24:16 (ESV) for the righteous falls seven times and rises again, but the wicked stumble in times of calamity.

2 Corinthians 11:24-27 (NLT) Five different times the Jewish leaders gave me thirty-nine lashes. Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked. Once I spent a whole night and a day adrift at sea. I have travelled on many long journeys. I have faced danger from rivers and from robbers. I have faced danger from my own people, the Jews, as well as from the Gentiles. I have faced danger in the cities, in the deserts, and on the seas. And I have faced danger from men who claim to be believers but are not. I have worked hard and long, enduring many sleepless nights. I have been hungry and thirsty and have often gone without food. I have shivered in the cold, without enough clothing to keep me warm.

2 Corinthians 4:8-9 (NLT) We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed.

Today, I conclude with Psalm 37:23-24 (NLT) The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand.
