DAY 1 — Zeal Flows from God’s Presence
Romans 12:11–12 (NIV) “Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
Focus Thought: Paul gives believers a clear instruction: “Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor.”
That tells us something important. Spiritual passion is precious, but it must be maintained. Zeal does not begin with personality. Some people are naturally expressive while others are quieter. Biblical zeal is deeper than outward enthusiasm. It is an inward fire that keeps us devoted to God and faithful to His purposes.
Where does that fire come from? Ultimately, it comes from His Presence. When we spend time with God, He reminds us who He is. Worship lifts our eyes above routine. Prayer reconnects us with His heart. Scripture renews our thinking. His Presence restores perspective. Often spiritual passion fades not because we no longer love God, but because we have allowed other things to occupy the centre of our attention.
Busyness can weaken hunger. Disappointment can cool passion. Familiarity can make sacred things feel ordinary. That is why zeal needs continual reconnection with the Source. A fireplace cannot remain warm when disconnected from the flame. In the same way, spiritual activity without intimacy eventually becomes exhausting. Hosting His Presence means refusing to serve God only from yesterday’s encounter. Return to Him.
Worship until your heart becomes aware of Him again. Pray beyond routine. Read His Word slowly. Remember what He has done in your life. Do not manufacture emotion. Simply draw near. As you remain in His Presence, passion begins returning.
The goal is not to become more excited about ministry than about Jesus. The goal is to burn for Jesus first. Everything else flows from there.
Action for Today Spend extended time in worship and prayer, asking God to rekindle spiritual passion.
Reflective Question: What passion returned as you drew near to God today?
Prayer: Lord, draw me close again. Rekindle holy passion in my heart and keep my spiritual fire burning. Amen.
Journal Prompt: Where has my spiritual passion weakened?
