5 December 2023 - The Power of your words

Your words have the power to bring great blessings. Words can also do a great deal of harm. Words have the power to destroy relationships. On the other hand, they have the power to heal relationships.

The Bible also talks about the power of God's Word. By His Word, He created the entire universe.

Hebrews 11:3(AMP) By faith we understand that the worlds (universe, ages) were framed and created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which are visible.

Matthew 12:36-37(NKJV) “But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Every idle word simply means non-productive. The words we use have tremendous power. The Bible says that both death and life are in the power of the tongue.

Proverbs 18:21(MSG) Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit - you choose.

When we refrain from critical and negative speech, we must replace it with uplifting, positive, and grace-filled words. Think about the words you speak. Are they uplifting and do they bring life to others? Ask God to help you evaluate your speech as you read these verses:

Proverbs 10(NLT) v 11 The words of the godly are a life-giving fountain; the words of the wicked conceal violent intentions.v13 Wise words come from the lips of people with understanding, but those lacking sense will be beaten with a rod.v18-21 Hiding hatred makes you a liar; slandering others makes you a fool. Too much talk leads to sin. Be sensible and keep your mouth shut. The words of the godly are like sterling silver; the heart of a fool is worthless. The words of the godly encourage many, but fools are destroyed by their lack of common sense.

God’s Word is powerful, and ours are powerful, too. We are required to use it responsibly. Throughout the Bible, we see the power the spoken word has; even more power than many of us realise.

I conclude with the words of Robert Morris: “Negativity is simply the devil's language spoken by those who have his perspective." God's language is faith. Nothing is impossible with God. God never speaks negatively. He speaks truth. Even when He speaks truth, He speaks it by faith, because He sees what can happen. Faith doesn't mean that you don't see the problem. Faith means you can look past the problem to see the answer. You're not saying: ‘There is no problem.’ You're saying: ‘There is an answer!’
