DAY 6 — God’s Presence Rests on a Broken and Contrite Heart
Isaiah 57:15 (NIV) “For this is what the high and exalted One says— he who lives forever, whose name is holy: ‘I live in a high and holy place, but also with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.’”
Focus Thought: God dwells both in heaven and in the humble
This verse reveals something breathtaking about God. He is the high and exalted One, the eternal and holy God who dwells in glory beyond human comprehension. And yet, this same God chooses to dwell with the humble and the contrite. He is not only enthroned in heaven — He is also at home in surrendered hearts.
God is not impressed by status, strength, or self-sufficiency. He is drawn to brokenness, humility, and dependence. The world looks for power and prominence; God looks for hearts that are lowly and open. He does not only rule from above — He abides with those who bow.
This Scripture shows us that humility is not just a moral quality — it is a dwelling place for God. God does not merely visit the humble; He lives with them. He makes His home where hearts are soft, surrendered, and aware of their need for Him.
The purpose of His nearness is beautiful: “to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite.” God comes close not to crush, but to restore. Not to condemn, but to revive. Humility creates the space where God can breathe life back into weary souls.
Pride builds distance from God. Humility creates nearness.
God is both transcendent and intimate. He is both majestic and merciful. He is high above all — and yet close to those who know they need Him.
God does not dwell where people think they are strong.
He dwells where people know they are dependent.
The greatest honour is not to be lifted high in the eyes of people, but to be inhabited by God.
Action: Invite God into any area of brokenness or weakness.
Reflection: Where did you sense His nearness today?
Prayer: Holy and Eternal God, You are high and exalted, and yet You choose to dwell with the humble. I come before You with a surrendered and needy heart. I do not want to rely on my own strength or pretend that I am sufficient. Revive my spirit. Renew my heart. Make my life a dwelling place for Your presence. Teach me to walk in humility and to live in continual dependence on You. Amen.
Journal Prompt: Where in my life do I need God’s reviving touch, and what would it look like to approach Him with a truly humble and surrendered heart in that area?
