23 July 2022 - Calm down

Mark 4:38 (VOICE) “38 Jesus was back in the stern of the boat, sound asleep on a cushion, when the disciples shook Him awake. Disciples (shouting over the storm): Jesus, Master, don’t You care that we’re going to die? 39 He got up, shouted words into the wind, and commanded the waves. Jesus: That’s enough! Be still! And immediately the wind died down to nothing, the waves stopped. Jesus: 40 How can you be so afraid? After all you’ve seen, where is your faith? 41 The disciples were still afraid, slowly coming to grips with what they had seen. Disciples (to one another): Who is this Jesus? How can it be that He has power over even the wind and the waves?”

The disciples were afraid. In the midst of the storm it is quite clear that the disciples knew the one that could calm the storm. Being afraid they knew that Jesus was their only hope. When you are afraid, put your trust in God.

Psalm 56:3–4 (ESV) 3 “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. 4 In God,whose word I praise,in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?”

David begins by saying, “When I am afraid” He acknowledges that the danger, the trial, and fear is real. He does not deny being afraid. “I am afraid,” he confesses. But not for long. “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you… in God I trust; “I shall not be afraid.” I am afraid for the moment, but I know where to turn when I am afraid. When I cast my fears on Him, He casts away all my fears. “I shall not be afraid.”

What happened to David between “I am afraid” and “I shall not be afraid”? He puts his trust in God. So, put your trust in God when you are afraid?

Psalm 56:9–11 (ESV) “Then my enemies will turn back in the day when I call. This I know, that God is for me.10 In God, whose word I praise, in the Lord, whose word I praise, 11 in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me?”

Psalms 62:1(ERV) “I must calm down and turn to God; only he can rescue me.”

Today, calm down, turn to God, only he can rescue you.
