18 April 2024 - O great mountain you shall become a plain!

Zechariah 4:7(NKJV) Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain! And he shall bring forth the capstone with shouts of: Grace, grace to it!

This morning I urge you don’t talk about your problems, talk to your problems. Speak to those maintains in your path. Declare favour over difficult situations. Too often we talk to God about how big our problems are. We should be talking to our problems about how big our God is.

In this scripture, Zerubbabel is faced with a challenge. He wants to rebuild the temple of the Lord, but the task seems to be impossible because of the opposition from residents. Zerubbabel is not discouraged. Instead, he chooses to face the task before him, saying, in effect, not even the great mountain will stand against him. His problem will become even ground. Zerrubbabel will succeed cheerfully.

Zerubbabel is told to bring forth the capstone and say grace, grace to it. The capstone is the uppermost stone or the last stone that finish a project. Zerubbabel was to focus on the completed temple, and to say grace to declare that it is done (even at a point when only the foundation had been laid). He had to start with the end in mind.

God wanted Zerubbabel and those rebuilding the temple and wall in Jerusalem to see a finished project and to say grace, understanding that God would help them get it done. Powerful!

Another word for grace is favour. In other words, ‘I have the favour of God’.

I love how it begins: ‘Who are you, O great mountain? He is says: you can’t defeat me. Don’t you know? I have an advantage. I have the favour of God. You shall become a plain, so, I am not seeing the mountain (problem) anymore, but the capstone, (the solution to the problem), with shouts of grace, grace (the enabling power of God).

Declare God’s favour. He promises your mountains will turn into molehills.

Matthew 17:20(NIV) He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you”

Matthew 21:21(NIV) Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done.”
