12 December 1 Corinthians 2

Waiting upon the Lord

1 Corinthians 2:9(NLT) That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.”Isaiah 64:4(NLT) says: For since the world began, no ear has heard and no eye has seen a God like you, who works for those who wait for him! Many apply 1 Corinthians 2:9 as a promise of future blessings in heaven. This application has merit, but our heavenly home was not the immediate context of Paul’s statement in 1 Corinthians 2:9 or the prophecy we find in Isaiah 64:4.Even though God has revealed some of His glory to us, the human mind cannot fully grasp the marvelous blessings God has in store for His children.1 Corinthians 13:12(ESV) For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. In Hebrew, wait, as quoted in Isaiah 64:4, could be translated to ‘rest trustfully in God’. It means to rest trustfully in God, in His goodness, in His wisdom, in His love, in His sovereignty, and His power. When we are waiting, we long for this or that to happen, for God to move in this way. And it is good to know that we can rest trustfully in the goodness of God, in the wisdom of God. He sees things and knows things we don’t know. He loves us. We can trust in His love. We can trust in His purpose, that He’s promised to work all these things together for the good of those who love Him and who wait on Him.God is waiting on us to wait on Him for help. Isaiah 40:31(AMP) But those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength and renew their power; They will lift up their wings like eagles ; They will run and not become weary, They will walk and not grow tired.“There is, however, a special blessing connected with waiting for the Lord. Men, even church-going men, would rather work than wait. They also love the legalism more than the holiness of waiting. Church leaders of today think waiting for the Lord is foolish dreaming.” -Harry BultemaIsaiah 64:4(TPT) says: These amazing things had never been heard of before; you did things never dreamed of! No one perceived your greatness. No eye has ever seen a God like you, who intervenes for those who wait and long for you!To wait on the Lord, is to have faith that our lives are in His hands and that He is working all things out for our good.Psalm 123:1-2(VOICE) I raise my eyes to fix my gaze on You, for Your throne resides in the heavens. Just as the eyes of servants closely watch the hand of their masters, Just as a maid carefully observes the slightest gesture of her mistress, In the same way, we look to You, Eternal One, waiting for our God to pour out His mercy upon us.Whatever promise or breakthrough you are waiting for, don’t stop waiting! God is acting on your behalf! Rest in Him and wait confidently and expectantly that He will act on your behalf.
