Your eye is the lamp of your body

Luke 11:34-35(AMP) The eye is the lamp of your body. When your eye is clear , your whole body also is full of light . But when it is bad , your body also is full of darkness . Be careful, therefore, that the light that is in you is not darkness.

According to the Amplified Bible, your eye is clear when you have a spiritual perceptive, focused on God. Thus, the question arises how do you view things around you? What lens do you have? How you view things in life will have a direct impact on your body, emotions and spirit. When your eye is focused on God, your whole body is full of light.

I love this portion of scripture; when your eye is clear, your whole body is full of light, benefiting from God’s precepts. It is clear from this passage it does not matter what happens in life, good or bad; we must view life from God’s view.

A bad eye is spiritually blind; it does not see things from a God perspective, ignoring God’s word.

The Amplified Bible, Classic Edition says in Luke 11:34-35 Your eye is the lamp of your body; when your eye (your conscience) is sound and fulfilling its office, your whole body is full of light; but when it is not sound and is not fulfilling its office, your body is full of darkness. Be careful, therefore, that the light that is in you is not darkness.

Job shows us the impact of dim eyes, Job 17:7(NIV) My eyes have grown dim with grief; my whole frame is but a shadow.

Let’s view life from a God perspective.

Proverbs 4:25(ESV) Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you.

Hebrews 12:2(ESV) looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

I conclude with Psalm 123:1-3(NLT) I lift my eyes to you, O God, enthroned in heaven. We keep looking to the LORD our God for his mercy, just as servants keep their eyes on their master, as a slave girl watches her mistress for the slightest signal. Have mercy on us, LORD, have mercy, for we have had our fill of contempt.”
