In Job 26, Job responds to Bildad by vividly describing God’s power and majesty, highlighting His control over creation and the cosmos. Job marvels at God’s greatness, acknowledging that humanity glimpses only a fraction of His ways.
Heavens declare Your Glory
In Job 26:14 (ERV), Job reflects on God’s awesome power, noting, “These are only a few of the amazing things God has done. We hear only a small whisper of God’s thundering power.” Job acknowledges that God's mighty works, such as suspending the earth in space, stirring up storms, and hanging clouds full of water, are just small glimpses of His unparalleled power. What we know of God’s might is only a whisper compared to the full extent of His greatness.
Job describes God's dominion over all creation—He controls the earth, the sea, the sky, and even death itself. God's immense strength causes the heavens to shake and the seas to roar. The works of His hands are too vast for us to comprehend in full, and what we see is only a fragment of His glory.
Psalm 19:1 (ERV) declares, "The heavens tell about the glory of God. The skies announce what his hands have made." The heavens themselves testify to God's glory, showcasing His magnificent handiwork. Similarly, Romans 1:20 (ESV)says, "For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made." Creation bears witness to God's eternal power, leaving no excuse for unbelief.
Heavens declare His Righteousness
Psalm 97:6 (AMP) proclaims, “The heavens declare His righteousness, And all the peoples see His glory and brilliance.” God’s glory is displayed not only in nature but also in His righteousness. Psalm 8:1-4 (AMP) echoes this sentiment, acknowledging the majesty of God’s name and the grandeur of His creation, asking, “What is man that You are mindful of him?”
God’s creation—like the heavens, the stars, and the earth—speaks of His glory, yet it is in Jesus Christ that we most fully see God's divine greatness. As 2 Corinthians 4:6 (ERV) says, “God once said, ‘Let light shine out of the darkness!’ And this is the same God who made his light shine in our hearts to let us know that his own divine greatness is seen in the face of Christ.” Jesus is the ultimate revelation of God's glory, the true light that illuminates our understanding of His greatness.
In conclusion, the vastness of God’s power and glory is revealed in both creation and in the person of Jesus Christ. Through the natural world and through His Son, God shows us His infinite greatness, inviting us to marvel at His majesty.
