DAY 5 — Let Go of Anxiety and Control
Scripture: 1 Peter 5:6–7 (NIV) “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
Focus Thought: Casting your cares is an act of surrender.
Anxiety often reveals where we are still holding on to control. Peter connects humility with the act of casting our cares on God, reminding us that surrender begins when we acknowledge our limitations and trust God’s care. To place ourselves under God’s mighty hand is to accept that He is both powerful and deeply compassionate.
Casting our anxieties onto God is not a one-time action; it is a continual practice of release. Worries tend to return when we try to carry burdens God never intended us to bear alone. Each time anxiety surfaces, it becomes an invitation to surrender again—choosing trust over fear and dependence over self-reliance.
God does not ask us to ignore our concerns; He asks us to bring them to Him. His care assures us that nothing is too small, too heavy, or too personal for His attention. As we release control and place our worries in His hands, peace begins to replace pressure, and rest replaces striving.
Surrender frees us from the exhausting need to manage everything ourselves. When we trust God with our anxieties, we discover that His mighty hand is not a threat, but a place of safety and lifting in His perfect time.
Action for Today: Identify your top three worries today. Name them aloud and intentionally give each one to God, trusting Him to care for you.
Prayer: Father, I humble myself under Your mighty hand. I release my anxieties and place them into Your care. Help me to trust You with what I cannot control and to rest in Your faithful love. Amen.
Reflection Question: What burden felt lighter after you cast it upon Him?
Journal Prompt: Write down the worries you released today. How did surrendering them affect your heart, your thoughts, or your sense of peace?
