In Job 22, Eliphaz accuses Job of wickedness, suggesting his suffering is due to sin. He urges Job to repent, promising that returning to God will restore prosperity, protection, and a favourable relationship with Him.
Let’s Give into God
Eliphaz once again accuses Job of hidden sin, suggesting that his suffering is punishment from God. By now, we know that Job’s integrity is intact, and his suffering is not the result of wrongdoing. Eliphaz is mistaken in his judgment of Job’s character. However, in the latter part of his speech, Eliphaz presents a powerful truth about returning to God, outlining the blessings that flow from a surrendered life (Job 22:21-30).
Turning to God brings restoration and blessing
Job 22:21-30 (MSG) 21-25 “Give in to God, come to terms with him, and everything will turn out just fine. Let him tell you what to do; take his words to heart. Come back to God Almighty and he’ll rebuild your life. Clean house of everything evil. Relax your grip on your money and abandon your gold-plated luxury. God Almighty will be your treasure, more wealth than you can imagine. Verses 26-30 “You’ll take delight in God, the Mighty One, and look to him joyfully, boldly. You’ll pray to him and he’ll listen; he’ll help you do what you’ve promised. You’ll decide what you want, and it will happen; your life will be bathed in light. To those who feel low, you’ll say, ‘Chin up! Be brave!’ and God will save them. Yes, even the guilty will escape, escape through God’s grace in your life.”
Although Eliphaz wrongly accuses Job of sin, his words about drawing close to God carry a timeless truth. No matter our trials or difficulties, when we turn to God, He becomes our strength and our greatest treasure. Job exemplifies this truth, as he served God not for what he could gain but for who God is. This pure devotion shows that true worship is not about rewards or blessings but about honouring God simply for His nature and character.
There’s promise in Job 22:21-30 (MSG) 21-25 “Give in to God, come to terms with him and everything will turn out just fine. Let him tell you what to do; take his words to heart. Come back to God Almighty and he’ll rebuild your life. Clean house of everything evil. Relax your grip on your money and abandon your gold-plated luxury. God Almighty will be your treasure, more wealth than you can imagine.
Job 26-30 “You’ll take delight in God, the Mighty One, and look to him joyfully, boldly. You’ll pray to him and he’ll listen; he’ll help you do what you’ve promised. Yes, even the guilty will escape, escape through God’s grace in your life.”
These verses encourages us, that when we come to terms with God and surrender fully to Him, He will guide us, fill our lives with light, and give us joy, peace, and fulfilment. Just as Job remained faithful despite feeling distant from God, we are called to trust God wholeheartedly, knowing that He will walk with us and be our ultimate source of joy and grace.
Today, may we seek to honour God not for His blessings but for His unchanging nature. As we surrender our lives to Him, we can trust that He will lead us into a life filled with His grace, joy, and peace.
