For your name’s sake, Lord, preserve my life
Psalm 143:11-12(NIV) states: For your name’s sake, LORD, preserve my life; in your righteousness, bring me out of trouble. In your unfailing love, silence my enemies; destroy all my foes, for I am your servant. Will the Lord go to extraordinary lengths to uphold His name? Absolutely. David bases his appeal to the Almighty on his role as a servant of God. Essentially, David is saying: “Come to my rescue because I am Your servant. LORD, Your good name will be defamed if You don’t help me.”Psalm 23:3(NIV) reflects this trust: he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for His name’s sake.Similarly, Psalm 106:8(NIV) acknowledges: Yet He saved them for His name’s sake, to make His mighty power known.Daniel 9:19(NIV) pleads: Lord, listen! Lord, forgive! Lord, hear and act! For your sake, my God, do not delay, because your city and your people bear your Name.”Today, we Christians enjoy a covenant relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Like David, when we need help, we can call on the name of the Lord.Romans 10:13(NIV) states: for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."Those who call on the name of the Lord put their hope in the living God, who is the Saviour of all, especially those who believe.
