Walk in Obedience
Deuteronomy 5:33 (NIV) “Walk in obedience to all that the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess”. Obedience to God gives us entry into all that He has in store for us. It opens the door of His blessings and keeps us in His will”. In the New testament Jesus says: John 14:21 (NIV) “Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”
*By obedience, we become God’s friend.*
John 15:14 (AMPC) “You are My friends if you keep on doing the things which I command you to do”
.
*By obedience, we get to know God’s will.*
Ephesians 1:7-9 (AMP) “In Him we have redemption [that is, our deliverance and salvation] through His blood, [which paid the penalty for our sin and resulted in] the forgiveness and complete pardon of our sin, in accordance with the riches of His grace which He lavished on us. In all wisdom and understanding [with practical insight] He made known to us the mystery of His will according to His good pleasure, which He purposed in Christ”.
*By obedience, our prayers will be answered.*
1 John 3:22 (AMP) “and we receive from Him whatever we ask because we [carefully and consistently] keep His commandments and do the things that are pleasing in His sight [habitually seeking to follow His plan for us]”.
What matters is obedience, it is the most important. When we obey the Bible and listen to the Holy Spirit, it makes God happy. In 1 Samuel 15:22 (ESV), Samuel says, “Does the Lord want burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as He wants us to obey Him? No, it’s better to obey than to offer a sacrifice, and it’s better to listen than to give the fat of rams.” The Bible clearly shows that what God wants most from us is for us to obey Him.
Obedience to God is the foundation of a life that honours Him. As we walk in obedience, we align ourselves with His will, opening the door to the abundant blessings He has promised. Deuteronomy 5:33 reminds us that obeying God's commands allows us to live, prosper, and experience the fullness of His blessings in the land He gives us. Obedience is not just about following rules but about cultivating a close, personal relationship with God.
Jesus teaches that our love for Him is shown through our obedience, and this love results in a more profound revelation of His presence in our lives. Obedience brings us into a friendship relationship with God, where we experience intimacy with Him by continually following His commands.
Through obedience, we understand God’s will for our lives. As we follow His guidance, God reveals the mysteries of His plans and purposes, which bring us peace, purpose, and direction. Moreover, obedience also impacts our prayer life. When we obey and seek to please God, our prayers are heard and answered because we walk in alignment with His will.
To apply this daily, we must commit to making obedience a lifestyle. This means:
Prioritise God's Word: Regularly read and meditate on the Bible to understand what God commands and expects from us. When we know His Word, we can better align our lives with His will.
Listen to the Holy Spirit: Be attentive to the Holy Spirit's promptings. He guides our daily decisions and helps us make choices that honour God.
Actively Live Out Your Faith: Obedience requires action. As you go about your day, make choices that reflect God's values—whether in how you treat others, handle challenges, or make decisions at work or home.
Trust God's Promises: Walking in obedience may not always be easy, but trust that God's promises are true. As Deuteronomy 5:33 says, obedience brings long life and prosperity in the land. When we stay obedient, we can expect God's blessings and favour in every area of our lives.
By choosing obedience daily, we draw closer to God, fulfil His purpose for us, and experience the fullness of His blessings.
