15 June 2021 - What are you doing here?

This morning I would like to continue where we ended yesterday. We spoke about Elijah saying, “I’ve had enough”. An angel touched him and said to him, “Arise and eat.”

The story continues, where the Lord asks him, “What are you doing here?”

1 Kings 19:9 (NLT) “There he came to a cave, where he spent the night. 10 But the Lord said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

In a personal way, you might be asking, “What am I doing here?” You may be looking upon your situations and circumstances, you may be feeling your pain, your frustrations, your failed dreams and wondering what is happening. Perhaps, like Elijah, you might feel like running. God might be trying to get your attention as He did Elijah’s. The big issue is not what is happening around you or what happened in the past, but what are you supposed to be doing now? What is your purpose? God speaks to Elijah’s situation by saying, “Go”

1 Kings 19:15 (NLT) “Then the Lord told him, “Go back the same way you came, and travel to the wilderness of Damascus.”

Go where? Go and fulfil your purpose. God speaks to Elijah and directs him back to his calling as a prophet. Sometimes we get tired, we feel that we don’t have the courage to continue. “What are you doing here - at the place of discouragement? “Arise and walk into your destiny”

“Our destiny is not determined by the number of times we stumble but by the number of times we rise up, dust ourselves off, and move forward.” - Dieter F. Uchtdorf

The Lord is challenging us to move ahead, and He will give us the strength to do it. Although you may feel overwhelmed by your situation, press into your purpose for your life.

Jeremiah 29:11 (CEV) “I will bless you with a future filled with hope--a future of success, not of suffering”

Exodus 9:16 “But I have raised you up for this very purpose, that I might show you my power and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth”

Philippians 2:13(AMP) “For it is God who is effectively at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.”

Joel Osteen once said “God will not allow any person to keep you from your destiny. They may be bigger, stronger, or more powerful, but God knows how to shift things around and get you to where you're supposed to be.”

I would like to conclude with a quote from Kathryn Kuhlman; “Great sea captains are made in rough waters and deep seas.”
