How do you fight your giants?
Deuteronomy 3:10-11 (AMP) “all the cities of the plain and all Gilead and all Bashan, as far as Salecah and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan.” (For only Og king of Bashan was left of the remnant of the [the giants known as the] Rephaim. Behold, his bed frame was a bed frame of iron; is it not in Rabbah of the Ammonites? It was nine cubits (12 ft.) long and four cubits (6 ft.) wide, using the cubit of a man [the forearm to the end of the middle finger]”.
God revealed that King Og was a giant. His bed was nine cubits long and four cubits wide. Israel previously turned back because they feared the giants in Canaan that stood before them.
Numbers 13:32-33 (NIV) And they spread among the Israelites a bad report about the land they had explored. They said, “The land we explored devours those living in it. All the people we saw there are of great size. 33 We saw the Nephilim there (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We seemed like grasshoppers in our own eyes, and we looked the same to them.”
God wants you to be a person of faith. But first, you must defeat the giants in life holding you back. 1 Samuel 17:45-46 (NIV) “David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel”.
If you want to be a person of great faith, do the following:
Remember what God has done in the past. 1 Samuel 17:37 (NIV) “The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you”.
Use what God has given you. 1 Samuel 17:38-40 (NIV) “Then Saul dressed David in his own tunic. He put a coat of armour on him and a bronze helmet on his head. 39 David fastened on his sword over the tunic and tried walking around, because he was not used to them. “I cannot go in these,” he said to Saul, “because I am not used to them.” So he took them off. 40 Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, put them in the pouch of his shepherd’s bag and, with his sling in his hand, approached the Philistine”.
Take strength from the Lord
1 Samuel 30:6 (NIV) “David was greatly distressed because the men were talking of stoning him; each one was bitter in spirit because of his sons and daughters. But David found strength in the Lord his God”.
It is all about God’s glory.
1 Samuel 17:45-46 (NLT) “David replied to the Philistine, “You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies—the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 Today the Lord will conquer you, and I will kill you and cut off your head. And then I will give the dead bodies of your men to the birds and wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel!”.
In conclusion, the giants you face may appear overwhelming, just as King Og and the Nephilim terrified the Israelites. But God calls you to rise in faith, not fear. Reflect on what He has done, just as David remembered his victories over the lion and bear. Use what God has placed in your hands, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, just as David used five smooth stones to defeat Goliath. Strengthen yourself in the Lord, like David did when his people turned against him, knowing that the battle is not yours but God's. Ultimately, it’s not about your strength, skills, or strategy; it’s about bringing glory to God. When you step forward in faith, trusting in His power, the world will witness that there is a God in your life, and He is mighty to deliver. So, how do you fight your giants? With unwavering faith in the Lord, trusting He will guide, equip, and empower you for victory.
