7 September Psalm 130

A cry for forgiveness

Psalm 130 is marked by an awareness of sin and a powerful assurance of forgiveness. The Psalmist cries here from the depth of the awareness and guilt of sin.

Psalm 130:1-3(NIV) Out of the depths I cry to you, LORD; Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy. If you, LORD, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand?

People may not always forgive us, but God always forgives us. God always offers forgiveness. Our God is a forgiving God.

Psalm 130:4(NLT) But you offer forgiveness, that we might learn to fear you.

“The word rendered ‘forgiveness’…. literally means cutting off, and so suggests the merciful surgery by which the cancerous tumour is taken out of the soul.” - Maclaren

It may be that you have sinned; but there is forgiveness.

1 John 1:9(NIV) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Psalm 103:12(NLT) He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.

Isaiah 43:25(AMP) “I, only I, am He who wipes out your transgressions for My own sake, And I will not remember your sins.

Proverbs 28:13(NIV) Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.

When we come to God to ask for forgiveness, we do not have to be afraid of rejection or judgment. As Christians, Jesus has already paid for our sins through His death and is ready to forgive us. You just need to ask for forgiveness and receive it. It is yours, receive it.
