6 August Psalm 98

The right hand of God

Psalm 98:1(NIV) Sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things; his right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him.

When Scripture refers to God's right hand, it symbolises its strength and ability. Throughout Scripture, the right hand is a symbol of strength and capability. The right hand of the Lord is portrayed in the Word of God as one of the mightiest aspects of God's power. When God refers to employing His right hand, nothing can withstand His power! Not enemies, the forces of nature, sin, darkness, nor spiritual oppression – nothing.

Psalm 44:3(NLT) They did not conquer the land with their swords; it was not their own strong arm that gave them victory. It was your right hand, strong arm, and the blinding light from your face that helped them, for you loved them.

Psalm 18:35(NLT) You have given me your shield of victory. Your right hand supports me; your help has made me great.

The right hand of God also refers to the Messiah, the LORD Jesus Christ, representing His equal position, honour, power, and authority with God.

Ephesians 1:19-21(ESV) and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.

Therefore, the right hand of God symbolises not only a place of the proximity of Jesus to God the Father but also a position of supreme power above all others.
