5 October Leviticus 26

Obedience Brings Blessing

Leviticus 26:3-5 (NIV) “If you follow my decrees and are careful to obey my commands, 4 I will send you rain in its season, and the ground will yield its crops and the trees their fruit. 5 Your threshing will continue until grape harvest and the grape harvest will continue until planting, and you will eat all the food you want and live in safety in your land”.

Obedience to God leads to a life of blessing and abundance. When you follow God's direction, it opens the door to His overflow in your life. Just look at Noah, he obeyed God and did everything as instructed, and in return, God protected and blessed him. We are a living testament to Abraham's obedience, as his faithfulness has blessed generations, including us.

Your obedience has the potential to impact not only your life but also nations and generations to come. Walking in obedience to God can change the future for your descendants. Have you ever realised how powerful obedience truly is? God promises to take care of you when you follow Him. Peace, prosperity, and long life are just a few blessings of obedience. By obeying God, doors will open in your life, and prosperity will follow.

Disobedience

On the other hand, disobedience shuts the door to blessings. There are real consequences in God's kingdom when we choose not to follow His will. While we have free will, choosing disobedience leads to sin and spiritual death.

How to Be Obedient

Obedience to God flows naturally from a heart filled with love for Him. When you love God, you’ll desire to honour Him and follow His ways. Love fuels the desire to obey, whereas viewing God's Word as a set of rules or restrictions makes obedience feel burdensome. But God didn't give us His Word to restrict us—He gave it to protect us.

When you encounter God and fall in love with Him, obedience becomes a joy, not a duty. However, it’s hard to obey what you don’t know, which is why it's so important to be rooted in His Word and understand what He says.

Paul writes in Ephesians 5:6 (AMP) “Let no one deceive you with empty arguments [that encourage you to sin], for because of these things, the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience [those who habitually sin]”. Furthermore John confirms love in 1 John 5:3 (AMP) “For the [true] love of God is this: that we habitually keep His commandments and remain focused on His precepts. And His commandments and His precepts are not difficult [to obey]”.

In Leviticus 26, God clearly outlines the blessings of obedience and the consequences of disobedience. His commands are not burdensome but a pathway to experiencing His abundance and protection. When we obey, as seen in the lives of Noah, Abraham, and many others, we invite God’s blessings: peace, prosperity, and safety, into our lives and the lives of future generations.

However, disobedience leads to loss and separation from God's promises. While we have free will, our choices have real spiritual consequences. Obedience flows naturally from a heart that genuinely loves God. It is not motivated by duty but by a desire to honour and follow Him. As 1 John 5:3 reminds us, obeying God’s commandments is not difficult when we are grounded in His love.

Ultimately, living a life of obedience is about walking closely with God, trusting in His Word, and allowing His love to guide us into the fullness of His blessings. Let us choose obedience, not out of fear, but out of love and faith, knowing that God’s way is always best for us.
