Desire solid food

Hebrews 5:13-14(NIV) Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.

As children of God, we should all desire solid food. We should want to study God’s Word and learn more about who He is and what He has done.

Psalm 119:103(CSB) How sweet your word is to my taste— sweeter than honey in my mouth.

We should always be longing for the milk of God’s Word as it provides us with all the spiritual food we require. If we are to be spiritually healthy, we must be feeding on that pure Word of God and should be wanting it more than anything else.

1 Peter 2:2(NLT) Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment,

Note the use of the words trained and practice in Hebrews 5:14(AMP) But solid food is for the mature, whose senses are trained by practice to distinguish between what is morally good and what is evil.

This is a process. We must consume the Word, put it into practice and allow it to train our thinking, understanding, and desires. Every decision we make in our daily lives should be shaped by what we read and discover in the Word of God. The more we do this, the more we will grow and mature. We will be able to discern what is good for us, and what will harm us, and we will be ready to progress onto the solid food of God’s Word with more in-depth revelations of Him.

To transition from milk to solid food, we will need to take responsibility for our study and prayer life. Until we take responsibility and practice, we will remain spiritual babies. 2 Peter 3:18(AMP) but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory (honor, majesty, splendor), both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

“The Bible was not given to increase our knowledge, but to change our lives.” -DL Moody

I conclude that we cannot be content to drink spiritual milk like infants and not grow in our feasting on God’s Word.
