Your Words Are True

Proverbs 30 presents the limits of human understanding and the greatness of God. He emphasises the importance of humility and warns against the dangers of pride and ignorance. The author highlights the significance of integrity and reliance on God's wisdom, urging readers to seek knowledge and avoid falsehood while appreciating the wonders of creation.

Proverbs 30:5 (EASY) affirms, "Your words are true." This sentiment is echoed in Proverbs 30:5 (NIV): "Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him." These verses remind us that God's words and promises are completely trustworthy. They have been tested and proven true, serving as a protective shield for those who trust Him.

The purity of God’s words is beautifully illustrated in Psalm 12:6 (ESV): "The words of the LORD are pure words, like silver refined in a furnace on the ground, purified seven times." This indicates that every word in Scripture is flawless, sincere, and devoid of any falsehood or corruption. Such assurance is echoed in Psalm 119:140 (ESV): "Your promise is well tried, and your servant loves it," affirming the reliability of God's promises.

Moreover, Psalm 18:30 (ESV) declares, "This God—his way is perfect; the word of the LORD proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him." The psalmist emphasises the pureness and certainty of God’s Word, as seen in Psalm 19:8 (ESV): "The precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes." Jeremiah 1:12 (ESV) reinforces this truth: "Then the LORD said to me, 'You have seen well, for I am watching over my word to perform it.'" God’s commitment to fulfilling His promises is further illustrated in Joshua 21:45 (ESV): "Not one word of all the good promises that the LORD had made to the house of Israel had failed; all came to pass." Ezekiel 12:25 (ESV) adds, "For I am the LORD; I will speak the word that I will speak, and it will be performed," confirming that God's word is unfailing.

Finally, Joni Eareckson Tada captures the essence of God's Word: “But when God speaks, it’s silver. Psalm 12:6 says, 'The words of the LORD are flawless, like silver refined in a furnace…purified seven times.'” God chooses silver to describe His Word, highlighting purity over attractiveness, as silver does not require impurities to bond.
