30 August Psalm 122

Let us go to the house of the LORD

Psalms 122:1(ESV) I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the LORD!”

Being in God’s presence meant everything to David. The presence of God is the believer’s true home

Psalms 65:4(ESV) Blessed is the one you choose and bring near, to dwell in your courts! We shall be satisfied with the goodness of your house, the holiness of your temple!

Psalms 27:4(ESV) One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple.

Psalms 23:6(ESV) Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

To dwell in the house of the Lord forever also suggests living with an attitude of heart that expresses constant praise and worship.

Psalm 84:10(NIV) Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

Hebrews 10:24-25(AMP) and let us consider how we may encourage one another to love and to do good deeds, not forsaking our meeting together , as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day approaching.

I conclude with Charles Spurgeon’s reflection on Psalm 122: “Our gladness at the bare thought of being in God's house is detective as to our character, and prophetic of our being one day happy in the Father's house on high. What a sweet Sabbath Psalm is this! In prospect of the Lord's day, and all its hallowed associations, our soul rejoices.”
