3 March 2023 - Generous giving produces everlasting joy

What is the reason for giving? To show how grateful we are. In Paul’s letter to the church, he assured them their gifts of support were a sweet-smelling aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God.

Philippians 4:18 (NKJV) Indeed I have all and abound. I am full, having received from Epaphroditus the things sent from you, a sweet-smelling aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well pleasing to God.

God also wants us to give from a place of grateful in response to what we’ve been given.

1 Chronicles 29:9 (NLT) The people rejoiced over the offerings, for they had given freely and wholeheartedly to the LORD, and King David was filled with joy.

We should give because it’s right but also because it’s smart and generates gladness. God takes delight in the believer who takes delight in giving.

1 Chronicles 29:9 (GNT) The people had given willingly to the LORD, and they were happy that so much had been given. King David also was extremely happy.

Isaiah 35:10 (NLT) Those who have been ransomed by the LORD will return. They will enter Jerusalem singing, crowned with everlasting joy. Sorrow and mourning will disappear, and they will be filled with joy and gladness.

The true riches of grace and joy are the returns on the investment of generous giving.

2 Corinthians 9:10-11 (ESV) He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God.

2 Corinthians 9:8 (ESV) And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.

Philippians 4:19 (NKJV) And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

I conclude: "Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds you plant." - Robert Louis Stevenson
