Go down to the stronghold
2 Samuel 5:17-22 (NIV) 17 When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over Israel, they went up in full force to search for him, but David heard about it and went down to the stronghold.
David heard that his enemies were coming in full force to search for him, but when David heard it, he went down to the stronghold. He did not run away from his enemy, no he went down to face his enemy. He knew that his strength was not in his own strength but in the strength of the Lord.
Remember, John 10:10 (NIV) "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life and have it to the full."
Let’s look at the various versions of John 10:10b. “My purpose is to give life in all its fullness. (TLB)” “My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. (NLT)” “I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance ”. (AMP) “I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of. “(MSG)
The meaning of life to its fullness: beyond what is anticipated, exceeding expectation, going past the expected limit, over and above, more than is necessary, super-added, a supernatural intervention.
Our God is an above and beyond God, exceeding our expectations. Ephesians 3:20 (NIV) “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us”
God is able. He spoke and all things became. God can do exceedingly and abundantly more than we can imagine. Above all that we ask or think. This means beyond our understanding or human capabilities to comprehend. By the power that works in us, the Holy Spirit. For God’s glory.
Psalm 103:5 (NIV) “who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s”
That is why David could go to the stronghold of his enemy. This stronghold was the same place where he killed Goliath – The Valley of Rephaim. If God could do it before He can do it again.
Psalm 91:7-10 (NLV) “A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand. But it will not come near you. 8 You will only look on with your eyes, and see how the sinful are punished. 9 Because you have made the Lord your safe place, and the Most High the place where you live, 10 nothing will hurt you. No trouble will come near your tent.”
