28 December Joshua 14

God’s promises don’t have an expiry date; if He said it, He will do it.

Joshua 14:10-12 (NIV) “Now then, just as the Lord promised, he has kept me alive for forty-five years since the time he said this to Moses, while Israel moved about in the wilderness. So here I am today, eighty-five years old! 11 I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; I’m just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then. 12 Now give me this hill country that the Lord promised me that day. You yourself heard then that the Anakites were there and their cities were large and fortified, but, the Lord helping me, I will drive them out just as he said.”

This is the story of Caleb. When he was 40 years old, he went to spy out the land and believed that God would give it to His people. But the rest of the Israelites were unwilling to enter the land. Now, 45 years later, at the age of 85, Caleb says, “I’m still ready. I’ve been waiting all this time. Give me the hill country, and I will take it, because I trust that the Lord is with me, just as He promised.”

Here are powerful scriptures that highlight faith that does not grow weak with time, just like Caleb’s:

Romans 4:19-21 (AMP) Without becoming weak in faith he considered his own body, now as good as dead [for producing children] since he was about a hundred years old, and [he considered] the deadness of Sarah’s womb. 20 But he did not doubt or waver in unbelief concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong and empowered by faith, giving glory to God, 21 being fully convinced that God had the power to do what He had promised.

This verse speaks of Abraham’s faith, but it mirrors Caleb’s confidence—he held onto God’s promise without doubt, fully persuaded God would do what He said.

Hebrews 10:23 (AMP) Let us seize and hold tightly the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is reliable and trustworthy and faithful [to His word];

Caleb’s faith remained steady because he trusted in the faithfulness of God.

Caleb’s life reminds us that faith is not measured by age or by how long we have waited, but by our confidence in God’s promises. For 45 years, he held onto the word God had spoken, and when the time came, his faith was as strong as ever. Like Abraham, he did not waver in unbelief, but remained fully convinced that God had the power to do what He promised. Caleb’s testimony urges us to “hold tightly without wavering” to our hope, because the One who promises is faithful. No matter how many years pass, God’s word does not expire. If He has spoken it, He will surely bring it to pass.
