28 August Psalm 120

In my distress, I cried unto the LORD, and he heard me

Psalm 120:1(NIV) says: I call on the LORD in my distress, and he answers me.

Psalm 18:6(AMP) echoes this sentiment: In my distress I called upon the LORD and cried to my God for help; He heard my voice from His temple, and my cry for help came before Him, into His very ears.

Psalm 50:15(AMP) advises: Call on Me in the day of trouble; I will rescue you, and you shall honor and glorify Me.”

Why should we cry out to God for help?

*Because He is always there for us, Hebrews 13:5b(NIV) reassures us: “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

*Because He cares for us, 1 Peter 5:7(NIV) encourages us to Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

*Because He understands us, Hebrews 4:14-16(NLT) says: So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testing we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

*Because He can comfort us, John 14:27(NLT) promises: “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.

*Because He loves us, Romans 8:35-36(MSG) asks: Do you think anyone is going to be able to drive a wedge between us and Christ’s love for us? There is no way! Not trouble, not hard times, not hatred, not hunger, not homelessness, not bullying threats, not backstabbing, not even the worst sins listed in Scripture:

Psalm 69:1–3(ESV) vividly describes a plea for help: Save me, O God! For the waters have come up to my neck. I sink in deep mire, where there is no foothold; I have come into deep waters, and the flood sweeps over me. I am weary with my crying out; my throat is parched. My eyes grow dim with waiting for my God.

Use your distress to drive you to your knees with new urgency and desperation. Let your own weakness in the situation cause you to rely on God and His strength. Call out to the Lord; He will answer you.
