DAY 6 — Zeal Inspires Others
Hebrews 10:23–25 (NIV) “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
Focus Thought: Spiritual fire is contagious. Hebrews tells us to deliberately consider how we can “spur one another on toward love and good deeds.” That means encouragement should not be accidental. We should intentionally strengthen people. Everyone becomes weary at times. Faithful people can become discouraged. Strong leaders can feel depleted. People who once served passionately can become tired, disappointed, or uncertain.
Sometimes they do not need another correction. They need someone to remind them of what God has placed within them.
Hosting His Presence should make us people who fan flames rather than extinguish them. Our words carry influence. A sincere message saying, “I see what God is doing through you,” can strengthen someone more than we realise. A prayer offered at the right moment can help someone continue. A testimony can awaken faith in someone who has almost stopped believing. Healthy zeal does not compete with other people's fire.
It celebrates it. We do not need to be the brightest flame in the room. We should desire an entire community burning for Jesus.
Ask yourself: When people spend time with me, do they become more encouraged to pursue God? This does not mean constantly preaching at everyone. Sometimes encouragement is simply noticing, affirming, praying, listening, and reminding people that their faithfulness matters. Barnabas was known as a son of encouragement. His ministry helped strengthen others who would later become influential leaders. Never underestimate encouragement. One sentence spoken in faith can become fuel for someone's journey. God may have placed you near someone this week because they need their fire stirred again. Do not only guard your flame. Help someone else guard theirs.
Action for Today Encourage someone who has become tired or discouraged in their walk with God.
Reflective Question: How did your encouragement strengthen someone today?
Prayer: Lord, make me an encourager. Use my words and presence to strengthen the spiritual fire in others. Amen.
Journal Prompt: Whose fire can I help strengthen?
