Forgiveness

2 Corinthians 2:11(TLB) A further reason for forgiveness is to keep from being outsmarted by Satan, for we know what he is trying to do. This highlights the importance of forgiveness to prevent being outsmarted or taken advantage of by Satan. Unforgiveness gives Satan a hold on our lives, should we not deal with it. Unforgiveness can create division and strife, making us vulnerable to Satan's tactics.Unforgiveness can have several negative effects that Satan capitalises on:- Bitterness and resentment: When we hold onto grudges and refuse to forgive others, bitterness and resentment can take root in our hearts. Ephesians 4:31-32(NIV) Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.- Division and strife: Unforgiveness can cause division among Believers. It can lead to arguments, misunderstandings, and breakdown of relationships. It is easier for Satan to sow discord and disrupt the work of God. Matthew 5:23-24(NIV) Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift.- Spiritual bondage: Unforgiveness can also lead to spiritual bondage. It keeps us trapped in a cycle of anger, hurt, and negativity, preventing us from experiencing the freedom and joy that come from living in Christ. Matthew 6:14-15(NIV) For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.Colossians 3:13(NIV) Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.Choosing to forgive breaks negative cycles and open us up to healing, restoration and reconciliation. Forgiveness allows us to release the burden of anger and bitterness, freeing us to experience God's love and peace. It also strengthens our relationships with others and safeguards the unity of the Body of Christ.Ultimately, forgiveness is a powerful weapon against Satan's schemes. When we forgive, we align ourselves with God's grace and mercy, reflecting His character and demonstrating His love to others. By choosing forgiveness, we guard ourselves against Satan's attempts to divide, discourage, and deceive us, enabling us to walk in the freedom and victory that Christ has provided.
