25 September Psalm 148

Let them praise the name of God, the name above all other names

Psalm 148:13-14(MSG) Let them praise the name of GOD—it’s the only Name worth praising. His radiance exceeds anything in earth and sky; he’s built a monument—his very own people! Praise from all who love GOD! Israel’s children, intimate friends of GOD. Hallelujah!

God deserves praise from all things on earth because He alone is God. There is no other being that deserves the worship, honour, and praise that God deserves. In Psalm 148, the word praise is used thirteen times in these fourteen verses. The Psalm begins in the highest heavens and ends with the little nation of Israel. The Lord our God should be praised. There is none like Him.

Psalm 113:3-6(AMP) From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the LORD is to be praised . The LORD is high above all nations, And His glory above the heavens. Who is like the LORD our God, Who is enthroned on high, Who humbles Himself to regard the heavens and the earth?

The word worship comes from an Old English word that means worthship, which means ‘to ascribe worth to someone.’ We worship God because He is worthy. Our worship ascribes worth to Him because of who He is and what He does.

Philippians 2:9-11(ESV) Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Jesus has the name above all names because Jesus Christ is Lord! This name, given to Him by the Father, affirms His divinity and supreme authority. Therefore, let us praise the Name above all names.
