25 October 2021 - Helmet of salvation

Ephesians 6:17 (NIV) “Take the helmet of salvation”

Paul’s statement “take the helmet of salvation” is the shortest description given to any of the pieces of armour—it required almost no explanation in terms of its value.

Salvation means being saved—receiving deliverance. Salvation means receiving deliverance from the penalty of sin.

Romans 5:8-10 (NLT) “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. 9 And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s condemnation. 10 For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son.”

Timothy 2:3-4 (NLT) This is good and pleases God our Saviour, 4 who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.”

That salvation, or deliverance from sin, opens the door for us to join the family of God—to live forever with Him as His children.

1 Thessalonians 5:8-9 (NLT) “But let us who live in the light be clearheaded, protected by the armour of faith and love, and wearing as our helmet the confidence of our salvation. 9 For God chose to save us through our Lord Jesus Christ, not to pour out his anger on us.” We must learn to keep our helmets buckled so that Satan’s fiery missiles do not lodge in our thoughts and set us on fire.

2 Corinthians 10:5 (ESV) “We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ”

Romans 12:1–2 (ESV) “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind”

Philippians 4:7 (ESV) “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Isaiah 26:3 (ESV) “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.”

1 Peter 1:5 (ESV) “who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time”
