In Job 25, Bildad insists that men and women cannot be righteous before God, emphasising His supreme power and purity. He highlights humanity’s insignificance, comparing people to mere worms under God’s vastness and perfection.

God is an awesome God

Job 25 (AMP): Then Bildad the Shuhite answered and said, “Dominion and awe belong to God; He establishes peace and order in His high places." Bildad’s words remind us that God’s supreme authority and awe-inspiring presence permeate everything. His "dominion" reflects God’s ultimate sovereignty over creation. Moving to Daniel 4:35 (ESV): "All the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, and he does according to his will among the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay his hand or say to him, 'What have you done?'" However, Bildad's statement emphasises that God’s dominion is unparalleled, with awe belonging uniquely to Him. When we say "awe," we refer to being amazed, astonished, and profoundly moved by God's greatness and power. Let’s contextualise the essence of the following verses:

Deuteronomy 7:21 (AMP): "You shall not dread them, for the Lord your God is in your midst, a great and awesome God."

Nehemiah 1:5 (AMP): “And I said, ‘Please, O Lord God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps the covenant and lovingkindness for those who love Him and keep His commandments.’”

Psalm 99:3 (AMP): "Let them praise Your great and awesome name; Holy is He."

The Scriptures affirm God's might and majesty, encouraging believers to approach Him with reverence. His greatness is not a fleeting attribute but an inherent quality that calls forth deep respect, admiration, and reverence. Romans 11:36 (NLT): "For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen."

In conclusion, from Bildad’s words to Daniel's, Deuteronomy’s, and the psalmist’s praises, we recognise that God’s dominion is sovereign, and His nature is awe-inspiring. His greatness surrounds us, reminding us that He is wondrous, amazing, and beyond all human comprehension. He stands as a great and awesome God in our midst, faithful and holy. Our response should be one of reverence and humble worship, as Romans 11:36 affirms: everything exists by His power and for His glory. He truly deserves our utmost devotion and praise. Amen.
