Manage Your Time Well

Proverbs 20 emphasises the importance of wisdom, integrity, and discernment. It highlights that wine and strong drink can lead to foolishness, while a wise person recognises the consequences of their actions. The chapter underscores the value of honest speech and the significance of living righteously, noting that God examines the heart and rewards those who uphold integrity and justice.

Proverbs 20:4 (NLT): "Those too lazy to plow in the right season will have no food at the harvest." Time is a precious resource that shapes our lives. Whatever controls our time inevitably influences our outcomes. Each of us encounters various time challenges, yet we all share the same desire: to make the best use of our time to achieve what truly matters.

Ephesians 5:15-17 (ESV): "Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is."

To maximise our time effectively, we might consider using a day planner or digital tools that help us manage our schedules. Being wise stewards of our time is essential. Luke 12:42 (ESV): "And the Lord said, ‘Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom his master will set over his household, to give them their portion of food at the proper time?’"

A wise person knows the value of time management, understanding that a little laziness can lead to significant consequences. Proverbs 6:10-11 (ESV): "A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man." Proverbs 13:4 (ESV): "The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied."

Jesus reminds us that time is fleeting

John 9:4 (NLT): "We must quickly carry out the tasks assigned us by the one who sent us. The night is coming, and then no one can work." This urgency calls us to action, making the most of every opportunity.

2 Corinthians 9:8 (ESV): "And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work." God can work in ways we cannot imagine, even within the confines of time. Psalm 62:8 (ESV): "Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us."

To effectively manage our time, we must define our priorities clearly. We must schedule what matters most first; otherwise, urgent tasks will overshadow our important goals. Proverbs 21:17 (ESV): "Whoever loves pleasure will be a poor man." Proverbs 20:4 (NLT): "Those too lazy to plow in the right season will have no food at the harvest."

As Abraham Lincoln wisely said, “Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.” This reminds us that preparation and prioritisation are vital for effective time management.
