In Song of Solomon Chapter 7, the beloved woman is celebrated for her beauty and grace. The chapter features poetic imagery as the lover praises her physical attributes and expresses deep longing. Their relationship is characterised by passionate love, intimacy, and mutual admiration.
I Am My Beloved’s
Song of Solomon 7:10 (NLT): “I am my lover’s, and he claims me as his own.” Compare with Song of Solomon 7:10 (NKJV): “I am my beloved’s, and his desire is toward me.”
This verse beautifully illustrates the sense of security a wife feels in the embrace of her husband’s deep love. She expresses that she is cherished and supported by him, highlighting a relationship marked by care and mutual desire. Her husband not only protects and nurtures her but genuinely desires her presence, affirming his love is authentic and voluntary.
The Song of Solomon captures the joy and fulfilment that can exist between a husband and wife. Yet, it also serves as a reflection of God’s original intention for marriage, symbolising a sacred bond established from the very beginning of creation.
In this declaration, the woman acknowledges her belonging to her beloved, while also noting that his desire is fully directed toward her. This mutual devotion exemplifies the honour that God intends for marriage, as expressed in Hebrews 13:4 (ESV): “Let marriage be held in honour among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.”
God designed marriage as a profound union, as seen in Genesis 2:24 (ESV): “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” It is in this deep connection—where both partners claim each other as “my beloved” and “I am his/hers”—that love and romance flourish. The Wisdom
The wisdom in Proverbs 5:18-19 (NLV) encourages us to celebrate this union: “Let your well be honoured, and be happy with the wife you married when you were young. Let her be like a loving, female deer. Let her breasts please you at all times. Be filled with great joy always because of her love.”
The phrase “I am my beloved’s, and his desire is toward me” captures the essence of true love, suggesting complete satisfaction, rest, and contentment. It embodies two vital elements: total commitment—“I am my beloved’s,” and the acknowledgment of mutual desire—“His desire is toward me.” As G. Campbell Morgan notes, this verse expresses the ultimate word of love.
In the words of David Boehi, “When God calls you to marry, He gives you a spouse who, by divine design, will complete you. Together you will be stronger and more effective than when you were apart.”
