23 September 2023 - Thanksgiving

Psalm 95:1-6(AMPC) O come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the Rock of our salvation! Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to Him with songs of praise! For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In His hand are the deep places of the earth; the heights and strength of the hills are His also. The sea is His, for He made it; and His hands formed the dry land. O come, let us worship and bow down, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker .

3 Things are associated with Worship

  1. By thanksgiving we acknowledge God’s goodness

  2. By praise we acknowledge God’s greatness

  3. By worship we acknowledge God’s holiness

Thanksgiving is an act of giving thanks: a prayer expressing gratitude, a feeling of being thankful to somebody for doing something.

The Hebrew word for thanksgiving is towdah, also meaning confession. The Greek word for thanksgiving is eucharista, meaning thankfulness or the giving of thanks.

Thanksgiving always has to do with showing gratitude for something that God has done for you. This can be something that is naturally done already, or something that you are trusting God for, by faith.

We thank God for sending His Son to die for us, for healing, for delivering us, for meeting our needs, etc.

Psalm 100:4(NIV) Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.

Psalm 100:5 mentions three unchanging reasons for thanking God: the Lord is good, His mercy is everlasting, His truth endures to all generations.

1 Chronicles 16:34(ESV) Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!

2 Corinthians 9:15(NIV) Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!
