All the glory to God
Psalm 115:1(NKJV) Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, But to Your name give glory, Because of Your mercy, Because of Your truth.
This Psalm starts by emphasising that God deserves all the glory. Not unto us, but unto God. How often have I seen people seeking glory for themselves? They want to be seen. They want a title. How often do we care more about what people think of us than what God thinks? You see, the focus should shift from us to God. God deserves all the honor.
There is a song that we sing You deserve the glory written by Gary Sadler & Aaron Keyes - You deserve the glory and the honor Lord we, lift our hands in worship As we praise your Holy name (Repeat) For You are great You do miracles so great There is no one else like You There is no one else like You (repeat)
Exodus 15:11(ESV) “Who is like you, O LORD, among the gods? Who is like you, majestic in holiness, awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders?
Then the Psalmist continues to compare our God, the God of all, to the idol gods and says in Psalm 115:3-8(NKJV) But our God is in heaven; He does whatever He pleases. Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands. They have mouths, but they do not speak; Eyes they have, but they do not see; They have ears, but they do not hear; Noses they have, but they do not smell; They have hands, but they do not handle; Feet they have, but they do not walk; Nor do they mutter through their throat. Those who make them are like them; So is everyone who trusts in them.
Indeed, glory should not be unto us or any other god but given to God alone.
Idols are worthless. Habakkuk 2:18(ESV) “What profit is an idol when its maker has shaped it, a metal image, a teacher of lies? For its maker trusts in his own creation when he makes speechless idols!
Psalms 86:8-10(NLT) No pagan god is like you, O Lord. None can do what you do! All the nations you made will come and bow before you, Lord; they will praise your holy name. For you are great and perform wonderful deeds. You alone are God.
Jeremiah 10:6(ESV) There is none like you, O LORD; you are great, and your name is great in might.
I conclude with 1 Chronicles 16:25(NLT) Great is the LORD! He is most worthy of praise! He is to be feared above all gods.
