20 November Deuteronomy 10

Fear God, Walk in Obedience, Love Him and Serve Him

Deuteronomy 10:12 (NIV) “And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul”. This verse clearly demonstrates that we Fear God, Walk in Obedience, love him, and serve him. To "fear God, walk in obedience, love Him, and serve Him" encompasses the foundation of a life deeply rooted in reverence, loyalty, and dedication to God. This holistic approach calls for inward transformation and outward action, reflecting our commitment to Him.

*1. Fear God*

To fear God means living in awe and revere of His holiness, power, and justice. This fear is not of terror but of profound respect and acknowledgement of His sovereignty. Proverbs 9:10 (NIV) The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Begin each day by acknowledging God’s greatness and submitting your plans to Him. Practising humility and remembering that His ways are higher than ours can help us walk in His wisdom.

*2. Walk in Obedience*

Obedience is an active response to God’s word. Walking in obedience means aligning our actions, decisions, and lifestyle with His Word, trusting His commandments are for our good. John 14:15 (NIV) “If you love me, keep my commands’, confirmed by Jesus in Luke 11:28 (NIV) “He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it”. Make sure you obey by committing to follow what God has revealed in His Word.

*3. Love Him*

Loving God is foundational to all we do and is expressed through our whole-hearted commitment, affection, and devotion to Him. It moves beyond duty to a relationship characterised by desire and passion for His presence. Deuteronomy 6:5 (NIV) ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. Confirmed by John in 1 John 4:19 (AMP) “We love, because He first loved us”. Foster a loving relationship with God by setting aside time each day for prayer and reflection. Reflect on His love for you and ask Him to help you love Him more deeply. Demonstrate your love through worship, thanksgiving, and aligning your desires with His will.

*4. Serve Him*

Serving God is a natural outcome of fearing, obeying, and loving Him. It involves using our gifts, time, and resources to further His kingdom and serve others in His name. Psalm 100:2 (AMP) “Serve the Lord with gladness and delight; Come before His presence with joyful singing”. Paul give an instruction in Colossians 3:23 (AMP) “Whatever you do [whatever your task may be], work from the soul [that is, put in your very best effort], as [something done] for the Lord and not for men”.

Look for ways to serve God in your daily routine. This might mean offering encouragement to someone, using your skills to help others, or participating in church or community outreach.

In conclusion, fearing God, walking in obedience, loving Him, and serving Him forms the essence of a life wholly devoted to God, as we are called to in Deuteronomy 10:12. This life of reverence, commitment, and purpose embodies both our inward transformation and our outward actions, each day honouring the God who created and sustains us.

By fearing God, we acknowledge His greatness and wisdom, setting the tone for every aspect of our lives. Walking in obedience reveals our trust in His Word and His ways, leading us into the fullness of His guidance. Loving Him with all our hearts fuels our devotion, grounding our relationship with Him in desire rather than duty. Finally, serving Him allows us to express our gratitude and commitment in tangible ways, using our gifts to bless others and advance His kingdom.

Let us embrace this path daily, knowing that each step brings us closer to God and aligns us more fully with His purposes. In doing so, we honour Him and experience the abundant life He has promised for those who walk faithfully with Him.
