19 January 2022 - God the Alpha and the Omega

Revelations 1:8, (NIV) “I am the Alpha and Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”

Alpha (A) is the first letter of the Greek alphabet. Alpha includes beginning, creation, and origination. Omega is the last letter. God is absolutely the beginning and absolutely the end. Everything that is originates ultimately in him. And everything will somehow end with him.

Isaiah 44:6 (NLT) “This is what the Lord says—Israel’s King and Redeemer, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies: “I am the First and the Last; there is no other God.”

God is the absolute Alpha. God is the first—the beginning. Before him there was nothing. There was no "before him." Just think of it! For millions of unending years God existed and never had a beginning. He is the beginning. From everlasting to everlasting, he is. There never was a time when he was not.

Psalm 90:2 (NLT) “Before the mountains were born, before you gave birth to the earth and the world, from beginning to end, you are God.

God is the omega of all things. Revelation 21:5-7 (NLT) “And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” And then he said to me, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.” 6 And he also said, “It is finished! I am the Alpha and the Omega—the Beginning and the End. To all who are thirsty I will give freely from the springs of the water of life. 7 All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings, and I will be their God, and they will be my children.”

Revelation 1:11 - "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last."

As the Alpha and the Omega, God is in control of everything in between.

Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega, the first and last, the beginning and the end in many other ways.

Hebrews 12:2 (NKJV) “looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

The Alpha and Omega, in the form of Jesus Christ, is our sufficiency, victory, and identity. There is nothing a believer can face that Jesus Christ isn’t capable of handling.

Philippians 1:6 (NASB) “For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.”

Because Jesus Christ is the complete source, from beginning to end, He is to be the centre of our faith.

Isaiah 48:12 (NKJV) “Listen to Me, O Jacob, And Israel, My called: I am He, I am the First, I am also the Last.”

Isaiah wrote for a people who lived under the oppression of Babylon. They could not envision a time when they would be free. But God says to them, “Do not be afraid. I haven’t written the end of the story yet! I am the first and the last.” Since Jesus is “The Alpha and the Omega” we know that no circumstance is hopeless, because He hasn’t written the end of the story yet and when He does, it ends gloriously for the people of God.

Philippians 1:6 (NLT) “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.”
