19 April 2021 - Trust in God

When people wrestle with doubt, they may tell themselves that they will try harder to have more faith. Faith is not the sort of thing that can be acquired by trying harder. Never try to have more faith – just get to know God better. And because God is faithful, the better you know Him, the more you’ll trust Him.

Matthew 6:31–34 “Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Therefore, do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

John 15: 5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”

Isaiah 46: 4 “I am your God and will take care of you until you are old, and your hair is grey. I made you and will care for you; I will give you help and rescue you.”

In John 15:5, Jesus says that apart from Him, we can do nothing. We need to lean on Him for help with everything in our lives. God wants us to put Him first in our lives. He wants us to put our confidence and trust in Him, all the time, in everything.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says, Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.

Remember, because you cannot see God, God is everywhere. Regardless of circumstances and how you feel, hang on to God, He will take care of you.

We have to study the Word to really have confidence in God and know we can hear Him. As we spend time reading and meditating on Scripture, we develop a strong spirit. Then we can hear God speaking to our heart and make decisions based upon what He’s leading us to do, not just what we think, feel or want.

In the Old Testament, when Daniel found himself in the lions’ den, he trusted God. When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were cast into in the furnace, they, too, trusted Him. When we find ourselves in a tough spot, we can trust that God will stick by us and turn the situation around.

Romans 8:28 (NLT) “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”
