In the end, only one thing will count, did you accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour
In this Psalm, we see the misperception that exists in this life. Success here on earth is often measured in terms of earthly riches: what we possess, our social position, our address, and even our level of influence. Sadly, all this amounts to nothing if one does not accept Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.
This is what Psalm 49:13-14(NLT) says: This is the fate of fools, though they are remembered as being wise. Like sheep, they are led to the grave, where death will be their shepherd. In the morning the godly will rule over them. Their bodies will rot in the grave, far from their grand estates.
Mark 8:35-37(NLT) states: If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?
As believers, we should not fear death. The distinction of a person's outward conditions, no matter how great in life, means nothing at death. In contrast, the difference in people's spiritual states, though it may seem insignificant in this life, becomes profoundly significant at, and after death.
John 3:16(NLT) says: "For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
1 John 5:12(AMP) explains: He who has the Son has the life ; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.
This is what David highlights in this Psalm, as he seeks to capture the attention of all people. Psalm 49:1-3(NLT) proclaims: Listen to this, all you people! Pay attention, everyone in the world! High and low, rich and poor—listen! For my words are wise, and my thoughts are filled with insight.
Psalm 49:8-9(NLT) says: Redemption does not come so easily, for no one can ever pay enough to live forever and never see the grave.
Then the key in this passage is this profound verse, Psalm 49:15(NLT) But as for me, God will redeem my life. He will snatch me from the power of the grave. Is this not the reason why Jesus came into this world? To redeem us.
I conclude with Matthew 6:33(ESV) But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Today, realise that having Jesus as your Lord and Saviour is worth more than all the riches and pleasures of this earth.
