You are my God

Psalm 140:6-8(MSG) I prayed, “GOD, you’re my God! Listen, GOD! Mercy! GOD, my Lord, Strong Savior, protect me when the fighting breaks out! Don’t let the wicked have their way, GOD, don’t give them an inch!”

Similarly, in Psalm 140:6(NLT) it is expressed: I said to the LORD, “You are my God!” Listen, O LORD, to my cries for mercy!

It is common for people to cry out to God in times of need. When an individual is facing a particularly challenging period, they will call out to God for help and mercy in their circumstances. David recognised God as his protector and understood that only God had the control and power to deliver him; no one else could offer him the assistance he needed.

According to Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary: “The more danger appears, the more earnest we should be in prayer to God. All are safe whom the Lord protects. If He be for us, who can be against us? We should especially watch and pray that the Lord would hold up our goings in His ways, so that our footsteps do not slip. God is as able to keep His people from secret fraud as from open force; and the experience we have had of His power and care, in dangers of one kind, may encourage us to depend upon Him in other dangers.”

Psalm 16:2(NKJV) echoes this sentiment: O my soul, you have said to the LORD, “You are my Lord, My goodness is nothing apart from You.”

In times of turmoil and distress, the faithful turn their hearts and voices to God, seeking His mercy and protection. The Psalms and teachings throughout the Bible remind us of the power of calling on God, who is our steadfast protector and Saviour. Just as David did, we recognise that our strength and goodness come from God alone, and it is through Him that we find deliverance and safety. In acknowledging God's sovereignty and experiencing His unwavering support, we are encouraged to maintain our faith and continue our prayers, knowing that with God by our side, we need not fear any adversity.
