16 June 2024 - Psalm 47

Give joy to the King of kings

Psalm 47 proclaims that God is in heaven, ruling over the earth. The Psalm summits in Psalm 47:5(NKJV) God has gone up with a shout, The LORD with the sound of a trumpet. This verse expresses the heart of the psalter, God reigns, meaning that God rules over all nations — indeed over the entire universe.

The first four verses begin with the command to clap, shout, and sing. Then we hear the reason for all this joy: God subdued peoples and nations under us and chose the inheritance for God’s people.

Psalm 47:1-4(NKJV) Oh, clap your hands, all you peoples! Shout to God with the voice of triumph! For the Lord Most High is awesome; He is a great King over all the earth. He will subdue the peoples under us, And the nations under our feet. He will choose our inheritance for us, The excellence of Jacob whom He loves. Selah

The second section of the Psalm, verses 6-9, continues the joy. God is Lord over all the people. Psalm 47:7-8(NKJV) For God is the King of all the earth; Sing praises with understanding. God reigns over the nations; God sits on His holy throne.

Since God rules over all, all who join in the worship become partakers of God’s blessings. Not only is this Psalm a Psalm of joy towards God our King, but also a prophetic Psalm, that points to Jesus as our King.

Ephesians 1:20-22(NKJV) which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church,

Psalm 47 includes the memory of the past, experience of the present, and hope for the future. Proclaim what God has done for us in the past. The present, give God all the glory as King of our lives. The future, knowing that one day we will spend eternity with the King of all kings.

I conclude today with Psalm 47:1(MSG) Applause, everyone. Bravo, bravissimo! Shout God-songs at the top of your lungs! GOD Most High is stunning.
