15 December 2023 - The pathway to God’s presence

David’s life is a good example of someone who always seeks and inquired from the Lord. He knew the pathway to God’s presence. Let us take a closer look at what David did.

David called upon the Lord - Psalm 18:6(NASB) In my distress I called upon the LORD, And cried to my God for help; He heard my voice from His temple, And my cry for help before Him came into His ears.

He lived with a repented heart - Psalm 25:11(NIV) “For the sake of your name, LORD, forgive my iniquity, though it is great.”

He always humbled himself before the Lord - Psalm 25:9(ESV) He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way.

He trusted God - Psalm 20:7(NKJV) Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; But we will remember the name of the LORD our God.

He loved God - David understood that the choice to love God comes from recognising and agreeing with the truth that God is the One who gives us the strength to do so - and God’s strength never fails and never gives up - Psalm 18:1(NKJV) I will love you, O LORD, my strength.

He devoted himself to the Lord - Psalm 16:8(NASB) I have set the Lord continually before me; Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

He recognised God as his source - Psalm 9:1(NKJV) I will praise You, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will tell of all Your marvelous works.

He knew that God was faithful - Psalm 23:6(NIV) Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,

He lived obediently before God - Psalm 119:34(NIV) Give me understanding, so that I may keep your law and obey it with all my heart.

He was intentional in his pursuit of God - Psalm 63:1(NKJV) O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You.

Psalm 63:6–8(NKJV) When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches. Because You have been my help, Therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice. My soul follows close behind You; Your right hand upholds me.

In conclusion Psalm 27:4(AMPC) One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek, inquire for, and require: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold and gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to meditate, consider, and inquire in His temple.

In the above Psalm David responds to a lifelong call and invitation from God Himself to draw near and ask of Him. When we draw close to God, He will draw close to us as it is confirmed in James 4:8(NLT) Come close to God, and God will come close to you.
