Surrender to God means we submit to God and let God have His way in every aspect of our lives. We are thus under the rulership of God. We’ve handed control of our lives over to God. Surrendering control is a daily choice. Like every discipline, we must learn to surrender and give it to God. The enemy seeks every day to cloud our minds with worries, doubts, and fears. The devil wants no room left for God in our lives. Surrendering to God becomes a lifestyle of daily giving it all to Him. Making room for God in our lives and giving him full control over it.

Judson W Van DeVenter wrote a song in 1896, I Surrender All: “All to Jesus I surrender, All to Him I freely give, I will ever love and trust Him, In His presence daily live. I surrender all, I surrender all, All to Thee my blessed Saviour, I surrender all. All to Jesus I surrender, Humbly at His feet I bow, Worldly pleasures all forsaken; Take me, Jesus, take me now. I surrender all, I surrender all, All to Thee my blessed Saviour, I surrender all. All to Jesus, I surrender; Make me, Saviour, wholly Thine, Let me feel the Holy Spirit, Truly know that Thou art mine. Merriam-Webster defines surrender as follows: To yield to the power of another. Agreeing to give up battling another. To give oneself up to the power or influence of another. Surrender is a verb, an action we choose. We choose to yield, agree, give up battling and give ourselves over to the influence of another.

James 4:7(NIV) Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Matthew 6:33(NIV) But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Romans 12:1(NIV) Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God - this is your true and proper worship.
