14 August Psalm 106

Remind God of His promise

Today, I would like to start where I ended off yesterday, that we must remind God of his promises.

Psalm 106:44-46(MSG) Still, when God saw the trouble they were in and heard their cries for help, He remembered his Covenant with them, and, immense with love, took them by the hand. He poured out his mercy on them while their captors looked on, amazed.

Charles Spurgeon said: “This is the sure way of prevailing with the Lord in prayer. We may humbly remind Him of what He has said. Our faithful God will never run back from His word, nor will He leave it unfulfilled; yet He loves to be enquired of by His people, and put in mind of His promise. This is refreshing to their memories, reviving to their faith, and renewing to their hope. God's Word is given, not for His sake, but for ours. His purposes are settled, and He needs nothing to bind Him to His design of doing His people good; but He gives the promise for our strengthening and comfort. Hence He wishes us to plead it, and say to Him, "Thou sadist”."

Psalm 119:49-50(NLT) Remember your promise to me; it is my only hope. Your promise revives me; it comforts me in all my troubles.

Mark Batterson writes in his book, The Circle Maker: “ … our most powerful prayers are hyperlinked to the promises of God. When you know you are praying the promises of God, you can pray with holy confidence…. You don’t have to second-guess yourself because you know that God wants you to double-click on His promises.”

When we remind God of His promises, we tell Him that we believe His promises and we depend on them.

Here is an example of king David that reminds God of His promise to him, 1 Chronicles 17:23-27(NLT) “And now, O LORD, I am your servant; do as you have promised concerning me and my family. May it be a promise that will last forever. And may your name be established and honored forever so that everyone will say, ‘The LORD of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, is Israel’s God!’ And may the house of your servant David continue before you forever. O my God, I have been bold enough to pray to you because you have revealed to your servant that you will build a house for him—a dynasty of kings! For you are God, O LORD. And you have promised these good things to your servant. And now, it has pleased you to bless the house of your servant, so that it will continue forever before you. For when you grant a blessing, O LORD, it is an eternal blessing!”

God is moved when we remind Him of His promises to us in His own word! God watches over His word to perform it.

Isaiah 55:11(NLT) It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.

God has not forgotten His promises, and every word will come to pass, but He wants us to remind Him of His promises and remind Him of what He has said.
