I will not leave you as orphans

John 14:16-18(AMP) And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), to be with you forever— the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He (the Holy Spirit) remains with you continually and will be in you. “I will not leave you as orphans ; I will come to you.

An orphan is a child or a person that has been abandoned, left by themself, left to fend for themself in this life which can be difficult on their own - to go through life trying to survive without a parent or a loved one taking care of them and to guard them. But, the Lord says, for those that trust in Him, for those that have set their heart on walking in this life with the Lord Jesus, He says: I will not leave you as orphans.

John 14:25-27(AMP) “I have told you these things while I am still with you. But the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name , He will teach you all things. And He will help you remember everything that I have told you. Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid.

Jesus says: I will not leave you as orphans or desolated. I will come to you. Jesus was telling us that God’s Holy Spirit would come to dwell in us, to comfort us, to strengthen us, to guide us, to be our constant companion.

Jesus refers to the Holy Spirit as our comforter. How amazing to think that no matter what we go through, the most powerful source of comfort we could ever want is always available to us. Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines comfort as “to give strength and hope to, to cheer; to ease the grief or trouble of, to console.” Whether we need encouragement, strength, counsel, or hope, it’s always there for us, through the Holy Spirit.

The word helper, in Greek used here in reference to the Holy Spirit is paraklētos, which means ‘one called to another’s side, specifically to help and aid’. It can also denote an intercessor, an assistant, or someone who pleads another’s cause before a judge. The word itself reveals the all-encompassing role of the Spirit within the Body of Christ. He is our Helper, Intercessor, Assistant, Advocate, Comforter, Counsellor, and Sustainer.

We have not been left alone; God has given us the Holy Spirit be our Helper. We are never alone.

I conclude with Romans 8:14(AMP) For all who are allowing themselves to be led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
