God’s Existence
Genesis 1:1 (AMP) "In the beginning God (Elohim) created the heavens and the earth."
The Bible opens with the clear declaration of God’s existence. God Himself existed before the beginning of time. He is uncreated and eternal, without beginning or end. Psalm 93:2 (AMP) "Your throne is established from of old; You are from everlasting." Psalm 90:1–2 (AMP)"Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were born, Or before You had given birth to the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God."
The very first verse of Scripture affirms God as Creator, without debate, introduction, or attempt at proof. God’s role as Creator is foundational and assumed throughout all books of the Bible. He is to be worshipped as Creator and Sustainer of all things: “In Him we live and move and have our being.”
Job 12:10 (ESV) "In His hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind." We owe everything to God; without Him, we would not exist. Creation itself declares His eternal power and divine nature.
Psalm 19:1 (ESV) "The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims His handiwork." From the first chapter of Genesis, we learn vital truths about God: He is unique: There is only one God. He is eternal: He existed before time, space, or matter. He is all-powerful: He created everything from nothing. He is distinct from His creation. He is intelligent and orderly: The universe reflects intentional design. He is personal: He speaks—“God said …”; He creates—“God made …”; He evaluates—“God saw …”; He blesses—“God blessed them.” He is loving and caring, and He is knowable: He desires relationship with His creation.
God has also planted eternity in the heart of humanity.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 (AMP) "He has made everything beautiful and appropriate in its time. He has also planted eternity in the human heart —yet man cannot find out (comprehend, grasp) what God has done (His overall plan) from the beginning to the end."
Throughout Scripture, we are reminded that God is unique, eternal, all-powerful, intelligent, personal, loving, and knowable. He existed before anything else and will exist forever. To know Him is the beginning of all wisdom and worship.
