11 December 1 Corinthians 1

If you’re going to blow a horn, blow a trumpet for God

1 Corinthians 1:31(MSG) “If you’re going to blow a horn, blow a trumpet for God.”The Amplified translation says: He who boasts and glories, let him boast and glory in the Lord. This is a quotation from the Old Testament prophet Jeremiah (Jeremiah 9:24) and it is translated in 1 Corinthians 1:31(AMP) as follows: so then as it is written , “HE WHO BOASTS and GLORIFIES, LET HIM BOAST and GLORY IN THE LORD,”.Our focus should not be on our own achievements or abilities but on God, who gives it to us. Philippians 4:13(NIV) I can do all this through him who gives me strength. Psalm 127:1(NLT) Unless the LORD builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless the LORD protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good.James 1:17(NLT) Whatever is good and perfect is a gift coming down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. This verse reminds us that any good things we achieve or receive are ultimately gifts from God.Colossians 3:23-24(NLT) Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ. This passage emphasises that our focus should be on serving God, rather than seeking our own recognition or reward. Our achievements are ultimately possible only because God’s grace and power work in and through us. We should therefore give him all the glory and honour for any successes we experience and keep our focus on serving and glorifying him.I conclude with Psalm 115:1(NLT) Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name goes all the glory for your unfailing love and faithfulness.
