Faith

According to Hebrews 11, faith is believing that God exists, that He rewards those who seek Him and that we can hope in Him because His promises will always be true. Faith is defined by the Dictionary of Bible Themes as a constant outlook of trust towards God, whereby human beings abandon all reliance on their own efforts and put their full confidence in Him, His word, and His promises.

Hebrews 11:1 and 6 provide us with the perfect definition of faith.

Hebrews 11:1(AMP) Now faith is the assurance (title deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed), and the evidence of things not seen .

Hebrews 11:6(AMP) But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for whoever comes to God must believe that God exists and that He rewards those who seek Him.

Faith requires living life as if every promise of God is true, whether we see the evidence of that, or not. Faith doesn’t need to see to believe. Faith is our most vital weapon as Christians to enjoy a triumphant life in Christ.

Paul told the Believers in 2 Corinthians 5:7(AMP) for we walk by faith, not by sight -

Hebrews 11:1-2(MSG) The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It’s our handle on what we can’t see. The act of faith is what distinguished our ancestors, set them above the crowd.

Faith is having confidence in what we hope for - a relationship with Christ, the blessings that come because of that relationship, and an eternity in heaven with God. Our faith is also the assurance of what we don’t see - the Holy Spirit working in and through us. This confidence and assurance are supernatural because it comes from God.

Psalm 37:5-6(NLT) Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust him, and he will help you. He will make your innocence radiate like the dawn, and the justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun.

James 1:6(NLT) But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.

I conclude with these words by Corrie ten Boom: “Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.”
