Trust

Psalm 18:2 (NKJV) “The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust”

This word trust in Psalm 18:2 has the meaning of "to lean on someone or something". God is the one that we lean on when things get tough. There is an old song that we sang as a chlid; “Learning to lean. Learning to lean. I'm learning to lean on Jesus. Finding more power than I've ever dreamed. I'm learning to lean on Jesus.” This is so true, the more we learn to lean on Jesus the more we can depend on his power.

Anyone who has ever trusted anyone in their lives, knows that to experience trust they have to break through a veil of doubt. The longer you’ve had trust issues, the thicker this veil becomes. Put your trust in the Lord, and you will be established. Do not allow any doubt. Doubt leads to fear, and distrust.

Psalm 56:4 (NKJV) “In God (I will praise His word), In God I have put my trust; I will not fear. What can flesh do to me?”

The word trust here means to cling. Thus I will cling to God. Clining to God, displays our trust in God.

Isaiah 51:5 (NKJV) “My righteousness is near, My salvation has gone forth, And My arms will judge the peoples; The coastlands will wait upon Me, and on My arm they will trust.”

This word trust is usually translated as hope but it does not mean to wonder if something will happen and "hope" it does but, to "know" that something will happen in the future. We do not hope that God will protect us; we "know" He will. This passage is saying that we know that God's strength will save them.

Proverbs 3:5 (NKJV) “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.

The word “trust” here implies confidence or security. When someone uses the phrase “with all your heart” it means there is no more room for anyone or anything else. It means that we have put our faith and trust alone in God.

“And lean not on your own understanding” helps us understand the implications of the word “all.” If we are giving the Lord complete command over our lives, then we won’t rely or depend on our “own understanding.” We will trust in Him for everything and not try to figure things out or make things work on our own.”
