Our feelings are a good gift from God. He is the one who created us to be creatures with feelings. God created us with emotions to serve a useful purpose in our lives. Just as our minds enable us to think and choose, so our emotions enable us to react to our feelings.
Our feelings can have a significant impact on our lives. Negative feelings can cause us to make the wrong decisions without considering the facts, irrational, quick, and hasty decisions. Many people take decisions based on their negative feelings and afterwards regret it. Making decisions when we are angry, unhappy, or even overly excited is unwise.
“Be careful in an emotional moment not to allow your temper to control your actions leading to poor choices that you will later regret.” - Germany Kent
Our feelings and emotions allow us to feel and experience life in ways we would not otherwise be able to. But our feelings and emotions can also be dangerous and destructive, especially when not adequately managed. We can use our emotions as tools to help us make decisions in life, but for the most part, we need to let God lead us.
Our emotions can often betray us; they can be damaging. However, this does not mean we should allow them to control our thoughts and actions. Instead, knowing we naturally act upon how we feel, is enough to help keep us on track with what is true.
The Bible is clear about the impact of our feelings on our lives.
Proverbs 16:32(NKJV) He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, And he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.
Jeremiah 17:9(AMP) “The heart is deceitful above all things, And it is extremely sick; Who can understand it fully and know its secret motives?
Proverbs 15:13(MSG) A cheerful heart brings a smile to your face; a sad heart makes it hard to get through the day.
The Bible also teaches us that in these problematic emotional times, God is there for us. In these times, God wants us to rely on him. When emotions spin out of control, turn to God for comfort and guidance.
Proverbs 3:5-6(NKJV) Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
Psalm 34:18(MSG) If your heart is broken, you’ll find GOD right there; if you’re kicked in the gut, he’ll help you catch your breath.
1 Peter 5:7(AMP) casting all your cares on Him, for He cares about you .
I conclude with Colossians 3:15(GNTD) The peace that Christ gives is to guide you in the decisions you make; for it is to this peace that God has called you together in the one body.
